Just two months after closing 63 stores, Sears Holdings has announced it’s about to close more than 100 more Kmart and Sears locations this year. The 64 Kmart and 39 Sears stores are expected to close between March and April, with many of the Sears Auto Centers at those locations closing in January or February. Liquidation sales will begin as early as Jan. 12 at the locations that are closing.
These latest closures are more in a long line of others across the country, including more than 300 Kmart and Sears stores combined.
This all comes after Sears announced it would no longer be selling popular Whirlpool-brand appliances. The separation means they will also no longer carry KitchenAid, Maytag and Jenn-Air products. While that may not be good news for brick-and-mortar Sears stores, the company is instead now selling appliances on Amazon.
Sears is hardly alone in having to shudder its stores. Just last week, Macy’s announced it was closing more stores and cutting 5,000 jobs across the country.
